Iqbal offers the following services: representation, advice, drafting and mediation. Iqbal is not a litigator and he cannot correspond with other people on your behalf, nor can he “come on record” and act as a solicitor would act (receiving court letters, corresponding with the court etc.). However, Iqbal works closely with solicitors with Public Access clients where a solicitor's service is needed, for example, to correspond with a party. He can arrange for a solicitor to act as required.

Hearings: Iqbal can appear in any court and represent you at any type of hearing, including:

• Possession hearings (albiet those involving signicant legal issues)

• Applications (including injunctions)

• Preliminary hearings, case management and costs management hearings

• Trials

• Appeals


Iqbal is usually instructed on multi-track cases in the County Court or High Court. Iqbal also acts in fast and small claims track cases for fixed fees. Iqbal has acted in appeals to a Circuit Judge, High Court and the Court of Appeal.


Advice: If you need to make a claim or need any advice on a claim made against you, Iqbal can provide advice and assistance on what to do or how best to do it. Iqbal can provide advice on an urgent basis, if he is available. Urgent work is delivered within 3 days.


Advice is provided in conference in chambers or at a location to suit you (for example, at your business location) or in writing. It may also be provided remotely by phone or VOIP services such as Skype.


Drafting/Writing: Iqbal can  draft various legal documents, including:

• Statements of case (Claim Form, Particulars of Claim, Defence/Counterclaim or Reply)

• Witness statements

• Applications

• Skeleton arguments

• Letters


Please bear in mind, Iqbal does not file or serve documents, nor does he send letters. These remain the responsibility of the client.


Mediation: Finally, Iqbal may also instructed to help mediate in a dispute (or potential dispute). Iqbal will act independently of each party and try to get the parties to resolve their differences without resorting to, or continuing, legal action.


Public Access (also called direct access) is where a barrister is instructed to act for a client directly without the use of a solicitor. Normally, a solicitor is instructed by the client and then, for specialist advice or representation, a solicitor will go to a barrister.


Depending on the case, it may be best to use a solicitor, especially where the case is long running or involves dealing with a lot of parties.


Public Access is beneficial where the client believes they really only need assistance in limited areas, such as someone appearing for them in court, drafting documents or legal advice. The client will choose to act for himself and come to the barrister as and when he needs him.


The exact work required, the fees charged and all other terms will be agreed in a client care letter, which is the contract between the client and the barrister. The client must always pay before any work commences.


The fee charged is determined by a number of factors, including the type of case, court, volume of documents and number of parties. A quote is always provided first and, if it is accepted, a client care letter will then be prepared.


Public Access can offer a tremendous saving if used correctly. However, it can never replace the legal service offered by both solicitor and barrister used together. For more information on Public Access, please read this guidance prepared by the Bar Standards Board.
